What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is based on a few simple principles.

The first principle is that your body is self healing and self regulating. Your body will adjust itself to attempt to stay healthy.

The next principle is that your nervous system is the master control centre and is in constant communication with your body. It sends messages from your brain, down your spinal cord and out to the nerves and receives feedback from the body.  Your body needs these messages to function and stay healthy.
Interference with these messages result in a breakdown of communication which leads to the body not functioning and healing at its best. This can be seen in physical problems such as back pain, neck pain and headaches to name a few. It can also be seen as emotional and chemical disturbances. Chiropractors call these interferences subluxations or spinal misalignments.

Chiropractors are experts at assessing the spine for this interference and assisting the body to correct these subluxations by gentle and specific adjustments. Removing this nerve interference usually results in a reduction of symptoms as well as optimal health and functioning.

The Science of Chiropractic has grown over the years and in 2007 the American College of Physicians and American Pain Society recommended Chiropractic for chronic and subacute back pain, along with exercise, acupuncture and yoga. (1). When looking at management of back and neck pain Chiropractic was found to be 250 times safer than a course of anti inflammatory drugs. (2).

About Tamsyn

My journey with Chiropractic is a little unique. In my early years when I was unwell I’d head straight to medication to heal me. I often found myself trying to deal with symptoms, with little success and never addressing the underlying cause. I felt there was more to health than what I was experiencing so went to my local library in search of answers where I found a book on natural health. It was probably one of my first lightbulb moments, as I realised that everything in the body is connected. No one part of the body works alone. Everything works perfectly together with the nervous system being the master control. My journey with Chiropractic then began as I studied Chiropractic. It was not about pain but more about optimal function. My sleep improved, my digestion improved and more importantly my well being improved.

For this reason my profession as a Chiropractor was always going to be focused on wellness. I am very involved in educating, motivating and inspiring patients and their families to prioritize their health. I show them the importance of their spine health and alignment to achieve optimal well being.

I studied for 5 years at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic which prides itself in its strong grounding in the Chiropractic philosophy. I was inspired by world class lecturers and I believe it help shape the Chiropractor I am today.
